It is a simple shelving system that involves constructing an intermediate mezzanine level on top of existing workspaces or racks to increase storage capacity. The system is equipped with stairs and cargo lifts for material handling. Typically, it uses medium- or heavy-duty pallet racking as the primary structural support and employs cold-formed steel sections, patterned steel plates, or steel grating for the floor decking.

The beams of the loft-style racking system connect directly to the floor slabs—either cold-rolled steel plates or steel gratings—allowing for easy assembly and disassembly, flexible reconfiguration, and eliminating the need for welding. This system is ideally suited for irregular spaces, such as column areas and oddly shaped rooms, making full use of the warehouse’s otherwise underutilized height. The lower level is supported by medium- or heavy-duty shelving, while the floor slabs can bear loads of up to 500–1,000 kg/m², ensuring stability and reliability.
