Our company’s shelving solutions for the apparel industry revolve around three core principles: "efficient storage and retrieval, optimized space utilization, and streamlined classification management." These solutions are carefully designed to accommodate the unique material characteristics of apparel production—ranging from fabrics and semi-finished goods to finished products. The solutions strike a balance between maximizing storage density and enhancing operational efficiency, while also meeting the demands for rapid product turnover and accurate inventory management.

Product Description

Core Material Classification and Corresponding Shelf Selection

Different materials have vastly varying physical properties and access frequencies, requiring a tailored selection of shelf types—this forms the foundation of the solution.

Material TypeFeaturesRecommended Shelf TypesCore Advantages
Fabric / Roll MaterialLarge in size, easy to roll, and requires moisture protection.Cantilever Racks + Skids

1. The cantilever structure doesn’t occupy storage space, making it ideal for long, strip-shaped coils;

2. Paired with a pallet, it provides moisture protection and facilitates forklift handling.

Cut pieces / Semi-finished productsNeeds to be categorized by order and frequently accessed.Medium-sized laminated shelving + compartment labels

1. The shelf height is adjustable, accommodating cutting boxes of various sizes;

2. The partition labels are clear, making it easy to quickly locate items by order.

Finished garmentsMultiple styles/ sizes, dust-proof, easy for inventory managementLoft-style shelving + hanging rod / storage bin

1. Utilize vertical space to build a loft, increasing storage density by more than 50%;

2. Hang rods are used for storing hung garments, while folded items are kept in designated storage boxes—everything is neatly organized and clearly categorized.

Accessories (buttons/ zippers)Small in size, diverse in variety, and easy to confuse.Lightweight drawer-style shelving + identification cards

1. Drawer dividers for storage, preventing accessory mix-ups;

2. Each identification card is marked with category and quantity, enabling efficient inventory checks.

Key Principles for Solution Design

Shelf layout and management must align with the production process to avoid "misalignment between storage and operations." The following three principles should be prioritized for implementation.

1. Flow Optimization Principles The shelf layout must align with the production process—for example, the flow path "fabric shelves → cutting area → semi-finished goods shelves → sewing area → finished goods shelves" should follow the shortest possible straight line to minimize material handling distances. Additionally, the finished goods shelves should be located close to the shipping exit to avoid secondary transportation.

2. Principle of Space Maximization In addition to ground-level shelving, prioritize utilizing the 3-to-5-meter-high space by installing mezzanine racks or high-rise shelving systems. Passage widths should be designed according to demand: reserve 3 to 3.5 meters for forklift operation lanes, and 1.2 to 1.5 meters for manual picking aisles, striking a balance between space utilization and operational efficiency.

3. Traceability Management Principle Each shelf unit (e.g., each tier, each compartment) must be labeled with a unique "storage location code," which, combined with the ERP or WMS system, records material information. Additionally, the finished goods area can be equipped with extra labels displaying "Style + Size + Color" to ensure quick verification and inventory checks.

Facility Support and Management Recommendations

The shelving solution must be paired with hardware facilities and management systems to ensure long-term, efficient operation.

Hardware Accessories

Equipment handling: The fabric area is equipped with a reach truck, the semi-finished goods area uses manual hydraulic pallet trucks, and the finished goods area relies on scissor lifts.

Protective devices: Install anti-collision skirting guards on shelf uprights, and add guardrails along the edges of high-level shelving to prevent damage caused by operational collisions.

Environmental Control: Install dehumidifiers in the fabric and finished-product areas, maintaining humidity levels between 40% and 60% to prevent fabric from molding.
